Backbone State Park

There isn’t a better time to enjoy Backbone State Park, than when there is plenty of snow on the ground. Boasting an extensive trail system, groomed snowmobile trails and a beautiful trout stream there is no shortage of outdoor adventures.

Backbone State Park has 16 year-round cabins and rental prices during the winter season range from $50 to $100 per night. 

Lake Wapello State Park

Tucked in the wooded hillsides of Lake Wapello State Park, Cabin # 13 is a year round cabin where you can obtain both peace and quiet and adventure. Popular for cross-country skiing, this park has plenty of trails including seven miles of shoreline trail.

Cabin #13 sleeps up to six and rents for $85 per night during the winter.

Pine lake State Park

Located along the banks of the Iowa River you’ll find the perfect cozy, cold-weather getaway at Pine Lake State Park. With unmatched charm, these traditional stone and timber structures offer wood burning fireplaces and can sleep two to four people.

Pine Lake State Park cabins rent for $65-$75 per night during the winter.

Waubonsie State Park

Waubonsie has one of the most rare and beautiful landscapes in the unique Loess Hills landform, and is part of the National Lewis and Clark Historic Trail. Taking you about as far southwest as you can go and stay in Iowa, Waubonsie offers two cabins that have stone, wood-burning fireplaces to warm up beside after of day exploring.

These cabins sleep 10 and 6 and rent for $85 per night. 

There are also two camping cabins that also have wood burning fireplaces. Please note, however, there is no nearby heated shower/restroom, only an outside pit latrine.

The two bedroom camping cabin rents for $50 per night while the other rents for $35 per night.

Springbrook State Park

If you happen to have a large family, Springbrook State Park’s Sherburne Cabin is ideal for you. Nestled in a wooded area on the park’s west side, this cabin features four bedrooms – sleeping up to 14, a huge living room, full kitchen and large deck. With great opportunities to view wildlife and a scenic overlook, this cabin is the perfect place for a reunion or family weekend retreat.

The Sherburne Cabin rents for $200 per night in the winter.
