Snow has finally arrived and it looks like this one is sticking around for a while.
If you’re like us and you can’t help but feel excited about the change in the weather — it’s probably because you can finally go cross country skiing and snowshoeing.
If you’re a beginner, here are a few of considerations to keep in mind when deciding to get outdoors for either of these activities:
- Snow depth and consistency: When cross country skiing, deep fresh snow can make skis difficult to maneuver. Whereas, deep snow (a minimum of 6″-8″) would be ideal for snowshoeing.
- Terrain: If your route includes a steep uphill, skiing might be tough – especially at a novice level of experience.
- Exercise: Both activities are an incredible workout.
If you’re planning a winter adventure – we want to see it! Snowshoeing, cross country skiing, or sledding – we want our Active Family getting outdoors this week.
Here’s how you can show us your adventures:
Not sure where to go? Head over to our friends at Des Moines Nordic Club’s Facebook page for updated information on good trails to hit while the snow is on the ground!
