Active Crew Member: Taylor

Taylor keeps a lot of young around here. Which is a good thing, until we start talking about music and she proceeds to describe the Stone Temple Pilots as a heavy metal band. Then we give her a 5 minute silent treatment.

Are you a Des Moines native? If not where did you live prior?

I was born and raised in Des Moines.

Give us a quick rundown of what life looks like for you when you’re not dropping wisdom at Active Endeavors.

Usually when I’m not at work I’m in class at Valley High School. Most of my free time outside of school is spent at soccer practice or cross country practice.

How long have you been an Active Crew member?

I’ve almost been working at Active Endeavors for a year!

What is your favorite part about working at AE?

One of my favorite things about working at Active Endeavors is the fact that it’s a local store. It’s a small staff so everyone that works there is like family. Another thing I love about working is how interesting all of our costumers are. A lot of them are big time travelers so it’s cool to hear about their stories of where they have gone and what they have done. It inspires me to do more things as I grow up!

What type of gear do you like talking about the most?

I like helping costumers with shoes and women’s clothing the best. I own many of the brands of shoes and women’s merchandise  that we carry so I can tell costumers things based on my own experiences.

What are you most excited about from our Spring/Summer collection?

I love the Patagonia Torrentshell rain jacket. I just bought a new one for this spring and it’s already come in handy so many times. You never know what kind of weather you’re going to get in Iowa!

What is your favorite activity to do outside?

I love running. Whether it’s on trails or just a quick jog around the neighborhood it’s a great form of exercise while enjoying the outdoors.

Top 3 favorite local spots.

I enjoy the Raccoon River trail, Browns woods and Jester park.

Best trip you’ve taken to date? Anything cool coming up?

My trip to Vail, Colorado was one of my top favorites. We went in the summer time so we hiked different trails, went zip lining, and went horse back riding. It was a very cool experience!

If you were stranded in the wild - what 3 pieces of gear would you want with you?

If I was stranded in the wild I would want a knife. Even though I don’t trust myself with one on a daily basis, it would come in handy for shelter, food, etc. I get injured often due to being clumsy, so if I was in the wilderness I would need a first aid kit. Lastly, I would need water/ food.
