Let Go

If you’re reading this, it’s highly likely that somewhere inside, there is a desire for adventure. For most of us, we only get as far as daydreaming about adventure.  At some point though, we need to allow ourselves to be open and willing to experience life through our adventurous desires.

Put it on the Calendar and Set Goals

Check your calendars and block off a few weekends or challenge yourself to a certain amount of days spent outside this summer. The reality is that setting goals and making outside time a part of your summer calendar can help you hit pause so you don’t watch that next episode of House of Cards and you use that time to open up opportunity for adventure.

Rally your Tribe

Not sure yet what specific trip you want to do? Ask your friends for ideas, and don’t leave anyone out. Attend local events and club gatherings. Get out of your comfort zone and hang out with a new crowd. Or you can host a Summer Kickoof Party. Find a local campground that is a good central location and invite friends there for the same weekend. Is there any better way to kick off the summer than planning your next adventure with friends around a campfire, drinks in hand?

Make a List

Too often we find ourselves saying “there’s always next year” — and “next year” never seems to become “this year”. First step, make a list of all the trips, campsites, trails and towns  you didn’t get to do but still have the itch to experience. Second step, make it happen. Refer back to your calendar of blocked off weekends and assign it to one of the items on your list.

No more “next year”.

Be the Ring Leader

All great ideas need a reliable organized person to see it through. Be that person. If you’re having coffee with a friend and they mention something they want to do that you are interested in as well, send a calendar invite and see it through so that it happens. If you’re not naturally an organized person, you could always recruit that organized superhero in your life to take the lead. Warning: This option may require a little bribing and/or begging, but if the adventure follows through — it’s worth the extra effort.
